Allen Iron Works & Supply, Inc. has been fabricating quality metal work for over 60 years. The company was founded in 1957 by Margaret and E.H. “Roy” Allen. In 1982 their daughters Jan Allen Smith and Sherry Allen Riendeau took a giant step forward and purchased the company, despite being in the middle of a recession, and this being an unusual business for women to own at the time. It did not take long for them to realize that not all ironwork was created equal. They became quality experts in terms of materials, welding, fabrication, finishing and installation.
The National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association (NOMMA) offers an annual competition through which fabricators from around the world submit photographs and descriptions of their best work. This is a very prestigious competition, and the work is voted on by peers. Allen Iron Works & Supply, Inc. has been honored with several awards over the years and Jan also served two terms as President of the national organization. The work was hand crafted, created by heating and then hammering the iron to create beautiful texture and design. Smith and Riendeau worked with clients from concept to fabrication to ensure the finished product encapsulated exceptional quality, elegance, and beauty.
In July 2020, the company was purchased by Jackson Langston who wanted to continue pushing the company forward with the same spirit of quality and craftsmanship. Langston had previously worked in the industry, combining like companies of Jackson Iron Works with Allen Iron Works. He continues to move the company forward and aims to bring the company into the 21st century, using modern technology and business systems combined with hand crafted techniques to continue producing beautiful ironwork with old world charm or clean modern lines, to align with any design concept.
Allen Iron Works & Supply, Inc. designs and fabricates driveway gates, interior and exterior railings, garden gates, fencing, custom entry doors, staircases, grilles, pot racks, registers, fireplace screens and tools, mailbox stands, curtain rods and hardware, custom made furniture, wine cellar doors, and many other specialty items. The company continues to operate the forging shop (blacksmith shop) for truly unique hand forged custom items. Styles range from traditional to modern and complement any design style. Visitors are welcome to the showroom to discuss project ideas and to browse the ornate selection of products available for purchase.
Ironwork is one of the greatest architectural treasures. Not only is it made in America, but in Birmingham, Alabama – one of the most historic places for metal fabrication and artistry. It provides beauty, strength and protection, and adds value to your most prized assets – your home or business.
